not freewheel, but it might if the clutch is ok and you don't engage it. I changed mine when the rad was out and it was a 1/2 hour or so. You till need new o-rings for the pipes, which are both different sizes. Also, you should get it evacuated (illegal to vent to atmosphere) before disconnecting and not leave it disconnected long to keep moisture out or it can ruin other parts in the system. To recharge it you will have to buy compatible substitute or change it all over to R134. I used Freeze 12 and it blows at least as cold as R-12 did.
